Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society

PAWS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving Philadelphia’s homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals. PAWS is Philadelphia's largest no-kill shelter and is working to make Philadelphia a city in which every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home. Through its adoption locations, special events, and foster care network, PAWS finds loving homes for thousands of animals each year.In March 2010, PAWS opened a low-cost, high-volume spay/neuter and wellness clinic serving pet owners and rescues in an effort to keep pets healthy and reduce the homeless pet population. Located in the Grays Ferry section of the city, the Clinic serves pet owners who have difficulty affording or do not have access to basic veterinary care (sterilization, vaccinations, treatments for upper respiratory infections/parasites/fleas, etc.) and rescue organizations that need affordable spay/neuter surgery and basic veterinary care to carry out their lifesaving work. Support for PAWS funds lifesaving initiatives including adoption and foster care programs, spay/neuter surgeries, low-cost vaccinations, and other efforts, all of which help reduce and will ultimately eliminate the unnecessary killing of Philadelphia's animals. Donations to PAWS are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Meet Elmyra

Elmyra is a small, spunky, brindle beauty who’s part pop with just the right amount of punk! She’s the best mix of playful, silly, and sweet—guaranteed to keep you smiling from morning zoomies to evening snuggles. Elmyra loves meeting new people and showing off her tricks, including an "acrobatic" move where she rolls onto her back and catches a toy mid-air! At only seven months old, Elmyra is already super smart, food-motivated, and eager to learn—picking up on commands like “sit” and “leave it,” enjoying training games, and thriving with enrichment like snuffle mats and puzzle feeders. When she’s not busy playing or learning, she’s happiest snoozing belly-up in your lap, and with structure and routine she truly shines—the kind of pup who loves starting the day with a long walk and some mental enrichment. Like many young pups, Elmyra is still figuring out her manners on walks and at home. She’s working on calm greetings and interactions, learning to walk politely past other dogs, house training, and some other basics. For now, she’s looking for a home where she can continue building confidence at her own pace. With patience and consistent training, she’s sure to blossom into a fantastic lifelong companion. If you're ready to welcome this peppy puppy into your heart and home, please email us or submit your application to learn more about adopting Elmyra!  Age: ~7 months old  Animal ID#: A-180418 Weight: ~10.4 lbs Mixed breed (It’s impossible to identify breed mix by sight alone, so for most dogs, their mix is only a guess. We get to know each dog as an individual and strive to make matches based on personality, not on breed label.) Location: Foster Care All of our dog meets are by appointment only; to get started, please complete the adoption application. To learn more about this dog, please contact us at [email protected] or 215-298-9680 ext. 16. Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society, 2900 Grays Ferry Ave, Phila, PA 19146 (by appointment only).
