Burlington County Animal Alliance

Burlington County Animal Alliance is a private, independent, 501(3)(c) nonprofit animal advocacy group, that was founded in 1999 by Lorraine Schrieber and Barb Giano who have a love for animals. To date, we have around 60 members of BCAA. We focus primarily on rescue and adoption of shelter dogs and cats in high kill shelters and surrounding areas in New Jersey. Our main focus is to make the public aware of the numbers of homeless dogs and cats there are in shelters and to promote adoption of these animals. We advocate spaying and neutering of all companion animals to counteract the overpopulation of dogs and cats and to end the tragedy of euthanizing healthy, unwanted companion pets.

Meet Snickers

Hi!  My name is Snickers and I am looking for a forever home.  I was adopted as a puppy to a military family who got deployed overseas and did not want to take me with them.  I am a 2-year old golden retriever who weighs a little over 65lbs, but I act more like a 1-year old who has not had a lot of attention paid to them.  In the home I'm in now, they say I'm "gorgeous, loving, healthy, house trained, and trainable" ... they key word here is trainable.  I'm looking for a family that is willing to give me time and training to become the gread adult dog golden retrievers are known for.  The good thing is I'm very treat and food motivated, and I want to please, both of which works in my/your favor.  I am already working on walking on a leash; however, I want to say hi to everyone I meet and will pull hard in order to greet them and will jump up on them, which can be pretty intimidating for a dog of my size.  I'm good about not barking at the other dogs unless they bark at me, but again I want to meet them and if out on a leash will pull.  I'm not aggressive at all and actually do better with small dogs but have played with some bigger dogs, too; I also haven't bothered the cats I've encountered other than some interest to figure out what they are.  I've still got a lot of puppy traits such as chewing on some things I shouldn't (shoes, socks, etc.) but  can be re-directed.  I'm not crazy about a crate but with the right incentives (food/treats), I will go in and after initially trying to convince you to let me back out, I will settle down.  I would love to find a home with a fenced back yard to run around and explore and a family who will pay me lots of attention and be willing to work with me (older kids might be best due to my size).  If you would like to meet me, please fill out an application which can be found at www.bcaaofnj.org.
