Somebody to the Rescue

Somebody to the Rescue is a grassroots dog rescue based in rural Mississippi, founded by someone who saw far too many dogs abandoned, mistreated, and ignored—because everyone assumed “somebody else” would help. We became that Somebody. We take in stray, neglected, dumped, and medically at-risk dogs, provide vet care, rehabilitation, and a safe place to land. Once healthy and ready, our dogs are matched with loving adopters or partner rescues, often transported north to find their forever homes. We are foster-based, volunteer-run, and fueled by compassion, grit, and a refusal to look the other way. Our mission is simple: step in when no one else will—and give every dog a chance to be Somebody’s dog.

Meet Peanut – A Gentle Soul in Need of a Special H

Peanut is a sweet, stocky little boy with a soft blonde coat and stunning golden eyes. This 2-year-old (as of August 2024) is one of Bobby’s siblings, and he’s looking for a very special person to be his safe haven. Peanut has had a tough past, leaving him extremely fearful and cautious around new people. When I first met him, he wouldn’t let anyone near him for months. But once he trusted me, he showed his true self—a sweet, gentle, and incredibly loving dog who just wants to be close to his person. His loyalty is so strong, we jokingly call him “Velcro.” Peanut needs a patient and understanding adopter who will give him the time and love he needs to feel safe. With trust and care, he will become the most devoted companion you could ever hope for. Peanut’s Perfect Home: A calm, quiet environment with a patient person who can help him build confidence. An adopter experienced with fearful dogs or willing to learn. Someone who will cherish and dote on him as he blossoms into the loving dog he’s meant to be. Why You’ll Love Peanut: He’s neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, and heartworm negative. His gentle, velvety nature will melt your heart once you earn his trust. He has a truly beautiful personality that will reward your patience and love. Peanut’s journey may take a little time, but the bond you’ll share with him will be unbreakable. If you have the heart and patience to give Peanut the loving home he needs, apply today and become his hero.

Adoption Process
At Somebody to the Rescue, our goal is to ensure each dog is placed in a safe, loving, and committed home. Our adoption process includes: * Completion of an adoption application * Phone interview and vet reference check * Virtual or in-person home visit (when possible) * Signed adoption contract with a return agreement * Payment of adoption fee: * \$350 for puppies * \$300 for adult dogs * \$200 for seniors * Transport fee may apply for out-of-state adoptions All dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested (and treated if needed), and dewormed prior to adoption. We require that all current pets in the home are spayed/neutered and up-to-date on vaccines. Adopters must be 21+ and have landlord approval if renting. We provide post-adoption support and always take our dogs back if needed—no questions asked.
