Meet Sammy Sebastian *Arriving 6/14*

Sammy Sebastian (or just Sammy) is a big, goofy guy who hasn’t quite realized how tall he is. He’s not heavy—around 59 pounds—but he’s all legs and enthusiasm. He uses a harness, and the built-in handle has been a great tool for guiding him when he gets a little too excited about life. Sammy is incredibly lovable, toy-obsessed, and friendly with other dogs, though he doesn’t always understand that he might be a bit overwhelming for the smaller ones. He was surrendered directly to rescue by a young couple who clearly loved him but didn’t quite understand what goes into raising a large, active dog. He came without much vetting history and is heartworm positive, but that’s being addressed. He’s eager to please and forms quick bonds—he’s already picked his foster as his person and wants to be close whenever possible. He rides beautifully in the car, crates well (though he might protest briefly before settling), and loves to be involved in the action. He may make a bit of noise in his crate, but he settles quickly and sleeps through the night. Potty training is still a work in progress, mostly due to some marking, but with consistent rules and routine, he’s showing signs of catching on. Sammy would thrive with someone who’s physically steady and aware—he hasn’t knocked anyone over, but given his size and energy, a home without small kids or unsteady individuals is probably best. He doesn’t necessarily need another dog in the home, but he definitely enjoys the company, especially if his person can’t be around all the time. At the end of the day, Sammy is a big-hearted, silly, affectionate dog —and he’s loving life with a smile on his face.   Sammy Sebastian is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 06/14/2025 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 4:30pm and 8pm. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame.  Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program.   Click here   to learn more about this program.     This pet is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm disease and is available through our Foster-to-Adopt (FTA) program. Activity must be restricted for several weeks during recovery. RSR will cover the full cost of treatment. RSR will provide heartworm preventatives until the retest is due. The adopter will be responsible for scheduling the retest and obtaining any follow-up prescriptions through their veterinarian. Click Here to learn more about heartworm disease.   If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.
