Mower County Humane Society

We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 No Kill shelter which receives no funding from Mower County, the City of Austin MN (shelter location) or the state. All funding is through adoption fees, donations and fundraisers. All funding goes to care of animals, zero payroll. We work with local law enforcement and the city pound so that no animals are euthanized once their hold time expires and they are unclaimed. Our average population runs about 30 dogs and 130 cats. In addition to rescuing and sheltering animals, we partner with local vet to sponsor periodic reduced cost spay/neuter clinics, and six times per year we host an on site visit of the MNSnap.org mobile surgical vet unit which provides reduced cost spay/neuters. We are small in numbers , but huge in heart and dedication.

Meet Blu (long term resident)

Blu is a 6 year old red heeler who came to the shelter as an owner surrender in Oct., 2021. He's a quirky and fun loving dog who lived a life without any real boundaries or training before he came to us. Because of this, it took quite a while for him to settle in and become the happy goofball that we know and love. What a personality! He has finally been fully vet checked and neutered and his fee is $125.  FENCED YARD NEEDED Blu needs a home that is experienced with herding type breeds like him. They are not a dog for all people. On the positive side Blu is intelligent, fun loving, highly trainable, and incredibly loyal. Like a lot of herding breed types he's also laser focused on what he wants and is somewhat stubborn. He likes to be kept busy and enjoys a consistent routine. He needs an adult only home and would prefer one without other animals. Teens are fine. NOT a dog for apartment living. He enjoys car rides, too, as long as the destination is not the vet's office. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications can be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. Please keep an eye on your emails after you apply. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventative, and spayed or neutered.

Adoption Process
Starts with written Application form which includes questions regarding housing situation (rent/own etc. renters require landlord approval), History of previous or current pets, Vet information, Animal housing information (cats must be indoors, dogs fenced yard etc.). Fees for Cat Adoptions are $50 (or $75 for two) Dogs vary based on breed, size, etc. Average is $125.

Look for other dogs for adoption!
