Mower County Humane Society

We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 No Kill shelter which receives no funding from Mower County, the City of Austin MN (shelter location) or the state. All funding is through adoption fees, donations and fundraisers. All funding goes to care of animals, zero payroll. We work with local law enforcement and the city pound so that no animals are euthanized once their hold time expires and they are unclaimed. Our average population runs about 30 dogs and 130 cats. In addition to rescuing and sheltering animals, we partner with local vet to sponsor periodic reduced cost spay/neuter clinics, and six times per year we host an on site visit of the MNSnap.org mobile surgical vet unit which provides reduced cost spay/neuters. We are small in numbers , but huge in heart and dedication.

Meet Allegra (no more applications)

Allegra came to the shelter from the city pound when her legal hold time was finished. Someone originally witnessed her being dumped out of a car by her presumed owner. We think she's around a year old and she does appear to be a Great Pyrenees mix of some kind. She does have the sing song vocal stylings of a husky or shepherd. She has been vet checked, spayed, chipped, and her fee is $150. Allegra is a happy and very loving girl who might require some basic obedience training. Her manners are pretty good. She will require a lot of exercise both physically and mentally to keep her well balanced. GROOMING ALERT:  She will require regular grooming to keep her coat free of matting and tangles. NO shave downs for this gal. We do think she would be okay with other dogs but have no way of knowing about cats. NOT a dog for apartment living. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. Please keep an eye on your emails after you apply. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. Potential adopters must be at least 21 years old and any resident dogs must be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventative, and spayed or neutered.

Adoption Process
Starts with written Application form which includes questions regarding housing situation (rent/own etc. renters require landlord approval), History of previous or current pets, Vet information, Animal housing information (cats must be indoors, dogs fenced yard etc.). Fees for Cat Adoptions are $50 (or $75 for two) Dogs vary based on breed, size, etc. Average is $125.

Look for other dogs for adoption!
