Worthy Dog Rescue

Worthy Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping dogs in distress, especially those living on chains, in pens, or in neglectful and abusive situations. Our mission is to provide a better life for these dogs, while working to address the root problems of animal overpopulation and improve animal welfare. We do this through community outreach and by supporting and educating dog owners in underserved communities, by sponsoring spay and neuter programs, and by rescuing and rehabilitating dogs in need.

Meet Ranger - ADOPTION PENDING!!!

Meet Ranger! This cute little guy was surrendered to the rescue by his owner, who was working long hours and crating him 10+ hours a day. He’s only 10-11 months old, so that lifestyle was particularly hard for him. Ranger has a youthful energy and joy for life that every adolescent should have. He is wide open to everyone and loves dogs, kids, and toys. This little guy needs an active family and would love to have a playful pup buddy or kids in his new home. Ranger was initially foster in SC, living with a mom, dad, two kids, two small dogs, a gecko, and some chickens. His foster mom, Lacey, checked in with an update: “I think Ranger would be great in a home with other dogs because he follows my dogs around and loves their company. Overall, he has a very confident and bubbly personality and loves my kids (11 and 13 years old). He snuggles in bed with my son at night and he lived with young kids in his prior home. He is always focused on what we are doing and bounces around the house joyfully. Once everyone has settled down, he will cuddle up on the couch or bed and sleep. Ranger has pretty good house manners for the most part. He had some pee accidents when he arrived, but it was on longer days when we worked. We were home last week for the holiday, and he did great! If he gets regular breaks, he does great on the potty training front. We are teaching him how to sit while we eat dinner and not beg for food. He is responding well. He loves food and is very food motivated. We keep our pantry on lock down because he will try to get in! Ranger is a young dog who is active most of the time, so a playmate would be great for him. I take him for walks on days that allow for it, and he is pretty good on the leash and will go potty on leash too. Sometimes he walks in front of me and I have to correct him, but it’s not a big deal. He loves to be outside in the yard exploring. Outside, he has a typical Terrier with high prey drive, constantly on the lookout for squirrels, birds, and anything else that moves. I introduced him to our barn cats, and he wanted to chase, but in a playful way. We do crate Ranger at night and he has wonderful crate manners and sleeps through the night. We take him out at 10:00pm, and he sleeps until we get up at 6am. I used a belly band on him for the first week or two as I do with all new male fosters to avoid marking.”   FOSTER UPDATE - 12/17/22 Ranger has been in his local foster home for a week now and is fully integrated into their pack. He's living with three dogs that range from tiny to 45lbs and kitties too. He does great with all the pups but not as well with the kitties. He has found a playmate in the largest and youngest member of the pack, Moose. His house manners have been great with the exception of some accidents during a cold, rainy day when he was trying to avoid inclement weather. His foster parents Evan and Shawnna checked in with this update: “This boy is such a LOVE BUG. He’s pretty active too, Ranger is a great name for him. He is honestly a sweet baby angel. We cannot get over how adorable and precious he is. He snuggles under the covers in bed every night and is doing great with the temp and vibe of our home - frequent outside trips to run around the yard, followed by snuggle time & a midday chew break. He is still new to our home but does have some ‘being left’ anxiety. He’s not destructive at all but will whine. We are giving him time to get more comfortable and learn that we come back, but when either of us has left the house he does some whining. He really needs someone with a flexible work schedule and an active lifestyle. Ranger is doing great with our pack, and I think it’s benefiting him to learn from the other dogs. He loves to greet them individually and lick their faces and even snuggles with them quite a bit. We’re realizing he probably would like to be in a home with other dogs. I just can’t imagine this dude as an ‘only dog.’ He loves other dogs so much and we have found it’s easier for him to learn things from our pack. He couldn’t figure it out ‘sit’ until he saw Moose do it! As he has come out of his shell, his prey drive has gotten stronger and he can’t focus on anything if he even gets a LOOK at the cats. We and the cats are correcting the behavior, but he’s made it pretty clear he wants to chase the cats. We are absolutely obsessed with him - he’s truly precious. If he liked cats we would be in TROUBLE.” This little guy is adorable and has a very social, fun-loving personality. He’ll make a great playmate and buddy for your kids or pack. Apply today!
