Worthy Dog Rescue

Worthy Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping dogs in distress, especially those living on chains, in pens, or in neglectful and abusive situations. Our mission is to provide a better life for these dogs, while working to address the root problems of animal overpopulation and improve animal welfare. We do this through community outreach and by supporting and educating dog owners in underserved communities, by sponsoring spay and neuter programs, and by rescuing and rehabilitating dogs in need.

Meet Puppi - ADOPTED!

Meet Puppi! This adorable little nugget originally belonged to a hunter who got her as a puppy and kept her in a concrete enclosure. She was never let out except to hunt and lived a pretty isolated existence. Sadly, this is the way of life for many Beagles in the south. When her owner realized she would not hunt with his pack, he decided that he was going to sell or breed her. Thankfully, one of our foster moms knew of Puppi’s situation and convinced him to release Puppi to her care. Puppi is only about a year old and is so fortunate to get this second chance. Puppi has been in her foster home for over a month now, living with a mom, dad, teen daughter, 4 other dogs, and 2 cats. It’s an active home and Puppi has acclimated well to home life. It was an easy integration and she’s a social dog by nature. She meets new dogs well and enjoys running and playing with her pack. She tries to play with the cats too, but in a gentle, curious way, and not at all aggressive. This adorable girl is still an adolescent, and a typical curious, mischievous Beagle. She has a moderate energy level but loves to play. Everything is a toy to her, so you have to watch her inside. She likes to drag blankets off the bed and clothes out of hampers, but she is not destructive and doesn't chew things up. She is crate-trained and housetrained, but still learning the rules of home life. Puppi’s leash skills are still a work in progress but have greatly improved since we met her. Initially, she would freeze on leash, not knowing what to make of it, and was fearful around crowded, noisy areas. She needed time to get exposure to the world outside of a concrete pen. But her foster mom has been practicing on leash with her, and she gets better every day. She's still easier to walk in less crowded spaces but has been to a few festivals, breweries, and stores. Once she’s comfortable, she does great meeting new people (even kids) and other dogs. She likes to sniff while she's walking, but she's not led by her nose and has never once tried to leave the yard We think Puppi would do well as part of a pack or could be an only dog too. She really likes attention from her humans and would enjoy being someone's one and only. We think she’ll make a great family dog and would do well with kids. She likes to be held, is very easy to handle, and is not a mouthy dog. She’s confident and relaxed inside the home, and not startled by sudden movements. We can tell she’s happy to be in a home and part of a family. Apply today!
