Lucky Dog Animal Rescue

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals, primarily dogs from high-kill shelters and owners who can no longer care for them. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, trainers, and boarding facilities, we are able to rescue hundreds of animals every year, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition.

SPARKLE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:   Sparkle      Best Guess for Breed:  Catahoula mix   Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of April 2024     SEX:   Female   Approximate Weight: 45 lbs   Gets Along With:   Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested   Currently Living at:  South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get her freedom ride up here!   Special adoption considerations: Sparkle is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky!  They are part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study will be placed at random, in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, this pup will be eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  Post treatment, we will work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test 6 months after treatment concludes, followed by a second test at 9 months.Sparkle is a truly Lucky Dog!  She tested positive for Heartworm disease but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the adoption counseling process.       Sparkle is Looking For:   Her forever home! Through no fault of her own, Sparkle landed in the shelter - but with her typical sparkle, she's closed the book on that chapter and is eagerly looking forward to her new one. The one where she gets her own humans for romps in the park and all the adventures they can dream up. Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed make an appearance in that new chapter as well but you know what she wants most of all? To know she's safe and loved and under her own roof.  In exchange, she offers adoring gazes and tail wags and and snuggles and unwavering loyalty. What do you say? Is Sparkle the glimmer you're looking for in your life?   What My Foster Says About Me:  We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with her foster   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
