Meet Lila
Lila NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Lila Best Guess for Breed: Labrador Retriever mix Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of June 2025 SEX: female Approximate Weight: 46 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs. We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter. Lila needs a foster or forever home to come up to the DC area! Special adoption considerations: Lila is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think Lila would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure she can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes. Lila is Looking For: Lila is a gentle "sato" from Puerto Rico who arrived in South Carolina on a rescue flight, ready to trade her past life for a future full of love. This brave mama raised her pups with care and devotion—now it’s her turn to be cared for. She’s sweet, soulful, and has a calm, nurturing energy that melts hearts. Lila loves soft blankets, kind voices, and being close to her people. She’s already formed sweet bonds with her caretakers and can’t wait to share that same unconditional love with her forever family. Lila gave love her whole life—now she’s ready to receive it. Bring her home today! What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once Lila has spent some time in foster care! Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
