Meet Kirkley
KIRKLEY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Kirkley Best Guess for Breed: Lab mix Best Guess for Age: 4 years as of May 2025 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 37 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter - Kirkley needs a foster or adopter to find his way to the DC area Special adoption considerations: Kirkley is a truly Lucky Dog. He tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Kirkley is Looking For: Meet Kirkley, a 4-year-old lab mix with a heart as big as his smile! With his striking black and white coat and soulful eyes, Kirkley is a total head-turner — but it’s his sweet personality that really makes him shine. At about 37 lbs, Kirkley is the perfect medium-sized companion: big enough for outdoor adventures and couch cuddles, but not so big that he takes over the whole sofa (unless you let him, of course). He has that classic lab charm — friendly, affectionate, and always up for being by your side. Whether it’s a walk in the neighborhood, a car ride, or just lounging at home, Kirkley is happiest when he’s part of the action. He’s past the puppy stage but still young enough to enjoy playtime and learning new things. Kirkley would thrive in a home where he gets daily exercise, lots of love, and a soft place to rest his head. If you’re looking for a loyal companion to join your family, Kirkley might just be your perfect match. Come meet this handsome guy — he’s ready to be your best friend!
