Meet Jed! This handsome, large fluffy puppy is only 12 weeks old and was very fortunate to find his way to rescue so early in life. His owner - who had him for all of a few weeks - got upset when Jed chewed on his speaker wires and threatened to turn him loose if the shelter did not take him in. The county shelter was at full capacity, and it's not a safe place for an unvaccinated puppy, but they took the owner's threat seriously and reached out to rescue for help. Just 24 hours later, Jed was in his new foster home, learning how to be part of a pack and a home. Jed is being fostered by Laine and Gary with the assistance of their pack of four dogs and a kitty. Jed's done well with the pups and has infused some puppy energy into the home. He's found a playmate in fellow foster dog, Rory, and is learning doggie manners from the pack. We checked in with his foster mom, Laine, for his first-week update: "Jed's an awesome dog! He follows Gary around everywhere. He listens well, is curious and confident, and is not scared of much at all. He waits and watches. Likes the toys and can play for hours with Rory. He's crate trained and amazingly pretty close to being potty-trained too. He's very smart and can figure out the treat dispenser toys quickly. He enjoys playing fetch and thinks Rory is his play toy. He succeeded in jumping on the couch just yesterday, and is still trying to figure out our cat, but doesn't bother her at all. He is a silly, playful, mouthy pup that needs some leadership. He gets the Zoomies at least once a day, and I have to remind myself he is just a baby even though he is bigger than most puppies at his age!" Jed is still a baby and is new to home life. He's just starting to learn the rules and will need basic training, as all puppies do. He's a confident, friendly, affectionate, and cuddly puppy right now, but will grow into a large active dog who needs daily walks, playtime, and a commitment to structure and routine to be his best self. We don't know much about his background or parents, but based on his current age/size, we think he will be 80+ lbs when fully grown. We are looking for a fun, active family with large breed working/herding dog experience and is ready for puppy mode. A family with another social, established dog in the home would be ideal for him to learn from. Preference will be given to adopters with: Shepherd or Large breed dog experience Flexible, puppy-friendly schedule Another social dog in the home is preferred not required Active homes in the DC metro and surrounding area Jed is still too young to be neutered, but having him neutered at the appropriate age will be required as part of her adoption terms.
