Worthy Dog Rescue

Worthy Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping dogs in distress, especially those living on chains, in pens, or in neglectful and abusive situations. Our mission is to provide a better life for these dogs, while working to address the root problems of animal overpopulation and improve animal welfare. We do this through community outreach and by supporting and educating dog owners in underserved communities, by sponsoring spay and neuter programs, and by rescuing and rehabilitating dogs in need.

Meet Tanner

Meet Tanner! This very social sweet boy was surrendered to the rescue after his owner moved out and left him behind. Tanner’s owner was dating an ER nurse who works really long hours. When they broke up, he abandoned Tanner with his ex-girlfriend who was not in a position to keep him. She was out of the home for long periods, and she kept him outside during the day and confined to a laundry room at night until she could find rescue help. This is no life for a dog, especially a young, vibrant adolescent pup like Tanner. Tanner is currently in a foster home with a mom, dad, and three dogs, including a larger PIt mixed named Kane - his best buddy - and two smaller Chihuahuas. He needed no time to transition or acclimate to his new pack and started playing right away. He has excellent doggie social skills and would benefit from a pup playmate in his home. While he’s not being fostered with a cat, he has had exposure to cats and had little to no reaction or interest. He’s a live-and-let-live kind of dog. His foster mom, Donna, describes him as “fabulous!” Tanner is a very sweet, affectionate pup who has a lot of young dog energy and is a great playmate but settles in well inside and wants to cuddle in your lap. He is housetrained and has not had a single accident in the house — good boy, Tanner! He is crate trained but Donna only crates him when she’s away from home. At night, he’s allowed to sleep wherever he wants and typically chooses to cuddle up with Kane, either on the couch or in a dog bed near his foster parents. As far as his people social skills, Tanner greets most people very well — he’s social and confident without being needy. Our vet even noted that he has a wonderful temperament. He’d be fine with kids 7+ who are ready to be playmates. He does jump a little bit but knows "sit." He’s not shown any mouthiness or guarding issues and is not toy-aggressive. He’s very respectful at feeding times around the other dogs. Tanner has decent leash skills, but like all young dogs could use more practice. Currently, he gets most of his exercise running around the yard and wrestling with Kane. He loves his yard and the freedom it offers, and his favorite thing to do, hands down, is play with another dog. We are looking for a home with a playful pup buddy in it If you are looking for a fun, social pup and ready to add a very good boy into your pack, Tanner is your dog.
