Animal Aid for Vermilion Area

To date, Animal Aid for Vermilion Area, a non profit 501(c)3 animal rescue organization established in 1995, located in South Louisiana, has helped rescue thousands of animals.AAVA has worked through 5 natural disasters, including hurricanes Katrina and Rita. In the aftermath of Katrina, they helped unite people with their pets and saved cattle from drowning and starving.AAVA also helped pass the Pet Evacuation Bill that keeps service animals and pets from being left behind during a disaster.AAVA has been helping animals and their owners for over 25 years, and one of their goals is to rescue and rehome as many animals as possible from the local Animal Control facility, a high kill pound with no adoption program. While all pounds are always full of dogs and cats for adoption, we are facing a particular challenge: this is a high kill pound with no adoption program

Meet Miley

Miley is a 6-year-old dachshund mix whose world was turned upside down when her beloved owner passed away. Since then, this gentle girl has been searching for a safe place—and a kind heart—to call home.At first, Miley may seem a little shy. She’s been through a lot and needs some time to feel safe. You’ll likely find her curled up quietly in her kennel, watching the world from a distance until she knows she can trust you. Although Miley may initially seem hesitant, her personality becomes evident once she feels more comfortable.Miley is a loving and loyal companion. Whether you’re settling in for a night of binge-watching your favorite show or enjoying a quiet afternoon with a good book, Miley will be right by your side, content just to be near you. She’s calm, cuddly, and happiest when sharing space with someone who loves her.She gets along well with other dogs and would enjoy a canine buddy, though she thinks of herself as the Queen Bee when given the chance! Miley hasn’t had much experience with cats or children, so we’re unsure how she would do in those situations. One thing to know about Miley—she’s got a strong little bark and isn’t afraid to use it when she thinks something might be a threat. It’s her way of keeping you safe; she takes that job seriously. If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion who will be by your side through thick and thin, Miley could be your perfect dog. With patience and kindness, she’ll blossom into the sweet, devoted friend you’ve been waiting for.Meet Miley—she’s ready to start her next chapter with you.
