Meet Avalanche in CT - Sweet Boy Loves His Dog Pals!

This handsome Pyr is Avalanche and he is as sweet as he is adorable! He loves everyone he meets out and about, big and small, is fine with anyone coming over, and has been very well-behaved at other people’s houses. He loves being pet and brushed, and just recently learned about the joys of a belly rub, so now he likes to lay with his belly in position, just in case. He is fantastic with other dogs of all sizes, and he is even great with the kitties at his foster home. Avalanche is a very sweet guy who walks well on leash, and gets SOOOOO excited when the leash comes out! - He has a butt that doesn’t stop wiggling, and when he’s really excited he adds a tippy-tappy dance to his wiggle butt routine! He loves to follow his foster mom around the yard and his favorite pastime is bouncing about with his dog pals. Avalanche truly loves other dogs so a home where he can have a dog buddy, or even several to play with, would be perfect for him. This even-tempered boy would love to have people who are home more often than not. He’d enjoy an active home, and to go on adventures - he could be a go-everywhere-with-you dog! He loves car rides, walks, hikes, and going for a swim. When at home, he’s very mellow, chill, and quiet inside the house, and lets his inner guardian shine when he’s outside. He has no desire to leave the yard, so a 4’ fence would suit him just fine. Whether he’s inside or out, he wants to be with his humans - he wags his tail if you just look at him, say his name, or even walk anywhere near him! More of his favorite things include chasing squirrels, meal time, treats, and peanut butter (he’s a foodie at heart and has no problem taste-testing whatever you put in front of him!). Avalanche is easy-going and listens very well, and he will be a wonderful addition for some very lucky family. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. We may consider fostering for some of our dogs who are in boarding. Please visit Fostering FAQfor an application and information about our fostering program. If you can't foster or adopt at this time, please consider helping our Neediest Cases or making a tax-exempt donation by visiting our Donate page. Please complete the adoption application and visit nationalpyr.org to learn more about Pyrs and our adoption process. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) is not a shelter. We are a non-profit, tax-exempt rescue who has been rescuing the breed for 15 years.  Visit nationalpyr.org to learn more about us, our mission and our breed. More Information: Questions? The fastest way to learn more about a dog is to fill out our online application. If you call or e-mail you are reducing your chances of adopting this animal as we direct our time and energy to first serving those who apply.  We have many Pyrs and Pyr mixes who need homes and not all of them are posted.
