Meet Pekingese in MI - Happy Silly Girl!
Pekingese is a sassy, silly, energetic girl who is always on the go! She loves chasing tennis balls (although she won't bring them back :) and she loves to wrestle with the other dogs in her foster home. She also enjoys chasing squirrels and birds, and has ALMOST caught the pesky rabbit that keeps sneaking into the yard! Anytime she is outside, she is usually carrying around a stick she's found - she even tries to sneak them into the house from time to time. Due to her unfortunate background, Pekingese still has a bit of insecurity over food and high value toys/treats - she does not exhibit resource guarding with people, but she does not like to share with other dogs. This behavior has improved a lot already, and we're sure will keep getting better as she adjusts to always having the security of regular meals. Pekingese is super smart and does well with puzzle toys, slow feeders, and games that keep her mind busy. She also will spend hours chewing on long lasting dog chews and bones. She is fully housebroken, crate trained, great with kids, cats, dogs, and everybody she's ever met! She LOVES cuddling with her foster dad, and is super affectionate and snuggly. Pekingese will require a home with a secure fenced yard and with a calm, confident canine sibling to help him continue to navigate the dog world. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.
