ADOPTION FEE WAIVED - PLEASE READ JACKY'S STORY... Meet JACKY, a handsome young mixed breed boy looking for a home. He's about 2 years old and fully grown at 33 pounds. Jacky looks like a German Pinscher or an Australian Kelpie, but he's probably a mix of multiple breeds -- could be a MinPin plus some other larger breed to account for his size. Jacky is a bit timid in new situations and with new people but warms up to kindness. Jacky came to us thanks to a number of good samaritans who provided him with veterinary care and safe places to live until rescue could be secured for him. Jacky and Jilly were brought to a vets office in a county so rural they don't even have an animal shelter. Their "human" wanted them euthanized in November for being "aggressive". The vet immediately recognized that the owner was feeding him a line of BS, these dogs were not aggressive, they were timid and unsocialized and needed love and kindness. Instead of euthanizing them, he provided them with full vetting -- spay/neuter, vaccines, etc. and boarded Jilly and Jacky until he could find a place for them. 2 different fosters stepped up over time and provided them with safe places to live. Jilly and Jacky have both proven to be wonderful dogs. Not an aggressive bone in their bodies. Jacky is housebroken and crate trained and has been fostered with dogs, cats and kids. He needs a home with an adopter who will help build his confidence. He needs a physically-fenced yard and ideally another friendly, well balanced dog. Everyone involved in Jilly and Jacky's care agrees that they are better off separated because they feed off of each other's fear and anxiety. Given Jacky's timid nature, she's not a good option for a first-time adopter. We decided to waive Jilly's (and Jacky's) adoption fee because we have put very little money into these dogs and they really need loving homes ASAP where they can settle in for the rest of their lives. If you would like to meet Jacky, please fill out a dog adoption application at dreamhouserescue.org. All of our fully-vetted adoptable dogs go to prospective homes for a one-week trial period to make sure the dog and home are the right fit before an adoption is finalized. We only adopt dogs into homes where all current pets are spayed/neutered and current on vaccines and heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We do check veterinary references to make sure adopters are compliant with standard veterinary care.
