11/5 Update: Merlot is very slowly warming up to people when not on a leash. She's very laid back and okay with staying on her bed and watching all the other doggies. When outside she trots around behind the others and they all get along well. She's gonna make someone a great lap dog.______________________________From the foster mom: She is very shy, but when she warms up to you, she will follow you around. Doing well on a leash. If she steps on it or it gets caught, she freezes until you help her. She isn't into treats but loves popcorn and takes it really gentle from my hand. She is doing pretty good about going potty outside but does have 1 accident sometime in the middle of the night. Does not know about dog beds or blanket piles for the most part. Did.find her this morning on a blanket in the bedroom but will sleep next to it but won't really go on it. She enjoys car/truck rides. Have to lift her into our vehicles, but she will jump out by herself. She is doing well with steps...might take her a little convincing, but she will go up and down. She loves it outside. Did awesome in the camper Friday/Saturday. Merlot loves to bask on the deck in the sun.
Adoption Process
All potential adopters must complete an adoption application which includes veterinary records for any current or past pets; adopters go through an interview process and a home visit. Once those steps are approved, the potential adopter can meet available dogs that fit the criteria and are a good match between family, home, and dog. An adoption contract is signed with the stipulation that RCBR can do a follow up visit and remove the dog from the home if any part of the contract is breached. Dogs can only be adopted once spay/neuter or other medical conditions requiring treatment are completed. An additional training contract is signed for any dog needing further training. If the adoptive family cannot keep the dog for the long term, the dog must be returned to RCBR. RCBR must be notified if family is planning to euthanize dog due to illness and/or old age or unknown behavior issues and can then elect to take back the dog.
