Meet Hunter

I’m Hunter. I am a 10.5-month-old, 55 lbs, pure bred German Shepard and I am on the hunt for the perfect family! I love my people and I am my foster parent’s shadow following them all around the house. My foster mom says that’s okay though because I am the sweetest boy who loves to receive affection and snuggles. I have never met a human that I didn’t love and am always willing to say hi to new people in exchange for some pets or treats. Prior to meeting my foster parents and coming to Hope I did not have much interaction with other dogs, but I have come a long way and made amazing improvements! In my current foster home, I love playing with the two resident dogs and I have made many other doggie friends at training. If my human helps me with slow introductions on a long line, I will quickly make friends. During my time with Hope, I have received professional training and know how to sit, down, stay, off, place, leave it, and I am pretty good at heeling. I am a growing boy who has a lot of energy, so I need to exercise during the day. I LOVE to play ball in the yard and could play for hours! I also enjoy going on walks, mental games, sniffing for food in the yard, and training. I am crate trained, and currently sleep in a crate at night in my foster home. While I think I would love having a doggie brother or sister to continue helping me learn the ropes, my foster mom thinks I would be okay as a single dog if my owner continued to introduce me to new people and doggies. However, I am a little too interested in the cats in my foster home and don’t understand why they won’t play with me—so it is probably best that I go to a home without cats.   I am looking for an owner who will help me continue my training, advocate for me when meeting new dogs, will play with me, and give me lots of treats and pets!   Could you be my forever family? German Shepherds are an intelligent, loyal, working breed. They need an outlet for their physical and mental well-being. Applicants must have a plan for how to train and exercise Hunter every day to avoid his getting bored and developing undesirable behaviors as he grows into an adult dog. Applicants must be willing to sign up for our referred training program, have a fenced yard (preferrable), and recent experience owning or having owned and trained a German Shepherd or similar working dog breed. APPLICATIONS RECEIVED NOT MEETING THESE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.  Siblings: Sage (F)  Max (M)  Hunter (M) If you are interested in meeting Hunter, please complete an online application at https://hopeanimalrescueofiowa.duplie.com/forms/196/dog-application Adoption fee is $300 which includes spay/neuter, microchip, and age appropriate vaccines.
