Emmet County Animal Shelter

We live in a primarily rural area with a 50% poverty level and 40% non Caucasian/transient population. Due to the farmer mentality or disposable mentality of our area many pets find them selves homeless due to no fault of their own. We take in animals that are neglected, abandon, injured or just unwanted. We rehabilitate them and then re-home them through our adoption process. We have been solely foster based since 2010 and are currently building our new facility. We do it all with volunteers and we do it because we love it! The animals deserve better and we try our best to offer them that by doing what we can, when we can, the best we can, with what we have and with all our heart.

Meet Kermit

***The first step in the adoption process is to complete the adoption application at www.emmetcountyanimalshelter.org*** This little stinker pants is Kermit!  Kermit is only about 15 pounds and 5 months old.  He likes to pretend he's a big dude though.  Kermit is doing great with the kids in his foster home, but we think 5 years and up would be best for him. Kermit has discovered that chasing cats is good fun so resident kitties would need to have spots to get up outta the way!  His foster is working on him knowing that kitties are not toys! He is working on leash training and doing pretty well at that.  His potty training is coming along but his bladder is still so small.  He loves to get on the couch and snuggle and he is just a little shadow to his foster mom while she does chores around the house. Kermit loves any and all people! We are not sure how big Kermit will get but based on his age and size currently probably not much more than 30-35 pounds.  So, if we are correct in guessing he might be a staffy mix he will be an itty bitty one! We believe Kermit's ideal home would be an active family where he is the only dog. A family that will spoil him as he thrives off human companionship, where he won't have to compete with other dogs for attention. Kermit has proven that he has a reactive personality with dogs that get in his bubble. He could potentially be okay with another dog if that dog is confident, calm, and has a nonreactive personality... Kermit will be a great dog, but he will need an owner that understands the breed and can work with him and be consistent with his training and making sure Kermit understands what is expected of him, so he knows how to be good pup.  Kermit is up to date on vaccinations and microchipped.  He will be adopted on a neuter contract.  His adoption fee is $300.00 If this little spit fire looks like he could turn on the charm with those puppy eyes and wrap you around his little paw then hop over to our website to complete the adoption application.

Adoption Process
