Last Hope Animal Rescue

Last Hope Animal Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Formed in March of 2004, we are an all volunteer animal rescue group comprised of foster homes in the greater Cedar Rapids area. Many of our animals come from local kill shelters, as their time has run out due to any number of reasons including lack of space, not deemed adoptable, special needs, etc. Our purpose is to save as many homeless, abused, abandoned, hard to place, neglected animals that we can and to place as many animals as possible into loving, forever homes where they will be cherished.

Meet Briggs

If you’re looking for a character, look no further! Briggs is an Olde English Bulldog estimated to be around 3 years old. He was found in Texas as a heartworm positive, very malnourished unclaimed stray that was about to be euthanized. A fellow Texan spotted him and made it her mission to get him healthy with heartworm treatment and then help him to get busy living life. Briggs gained some much needed weight and in starting to feel better, his fun and playful personality started to shine through. Brigg's needs an owner that understands how important heartworm preventatives are, he will require this prescription medication monthly for the rest of his life!     If Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies were a Bulldog, then that would be Briggs:). What he lacks in common sense, he over compensates for with extremely good looks. It’s believed that his “creator” ran out of bulldog tongues, and had to substitute a Great Dane tongue in the creative process. All the better to deliver kisses with says Briggs!  Briggs is good with other dogs that don’t mind him crossing boundaries.  He knows no boundaries after all!  He’s a close talker that will invade your personal “bubble”, so he is probably not a great match with very young children.   He is kennel and house trained and lets himself outside, so you must have good hinges on your doors. He rides well in a vehicle and doesn’t need crated for trips.  He knows a few commands, but it’s anyone’s guess whether he’ll listen to them or not.    If you’re looking for a low rider that invades your personal space, has no boundaries, and loves to snuggle and give kisses, then Briggs is your man. The adoption fee for Briggs is $300 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccines and preventatives. Briggs has completed heartworm treatment and will require year round preventatives going forward. Briggs is seeking an indoor home only, if you would like to meet him please submit an application through our website, Adopthope.org. Last Hope requires that adopters have a history of keeping any previous pets altered, as indoor pets only and kept current on annual vet visits and vaccines. Our adoption process includes a vet history check and a home visit.

Adoption Process
Prior to adoption, all of our dogs have been tested for heartworm, current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, and spayed or neutered, if age appropriate. Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and home visit. The adoption fee for dogs and puppies varies. Prior to adoption, our cats have been tested for feline leukemia, current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, and spayed or neutered, if age appropriate. If at the time of adoption, the kitten is too young to be spayed or neutered, an agreed upon time frame will be set for when this procedure is to be done. Spaying or neutering is not an optional procedure, it is required of all animals we rescue. The adoption fee for cats and kittens varies.
