Dakota Dachshund Rescue

Diane started doing fostering at the Sioux Falls Humane Society and then Pet Pals for Life. She had a passion for dachshunds. We noticed that the Sioux Falls area had a need for a dachshund rescue so her and I (Doug) started DDR. The response and need was much greater than we anticipated.

I do tend to get a little rough when I play, but we have been working on it.I am nose down, moving forward when we go on short walks with my leash and harness. All the new things to smell and see! I know I'm going to be a pro in no time!I am doing really well potty training, and go out about every 3-4 hours. I love my potty training treats! When I go outside, I need to be on a leash and harness or my nose gets the best of me and I get distracted and forget what I'm suppose to be doing. Plus, once I'm done with my business, I think it's "game on" and never want to go inside, so catching me is a challenge! I'm still a young puppy that requires a physically fenced yard. I still need your guidance and you to watch my cues so I can master potty training. I have been working on 'here' when my name is called, I still need practice.OH. MY. GOSH! I LOVE SNOW! I love to eat it, roll around in it, and run through it! Hopefully that lasts well into my adult life!I know how to use the ramp (following my brother) to go outside to go potty. I currently live with my brother, but would love to meet some new friends! I have cats in my foster house and I'm curious, but they remind me who is boss.I kennel when my foster parents leave and sleep in my kennel at night. I keep my kennel clean (no accidents) and do fuss for a teeny-tiny bit when I still want to keep playing. I sleep from about 10pm to 5am. In the morning I go right out and do my business.I play well with my toys; I do like to try to bury myself in blankets! Brain balls (balls with treats in them) are my jam! I know how to roll those things around like a mad man!I eat 2x a day and know how to sit for my food. If you're looking for a little guy that wants to go on adventures, will snuggle when he is done playing, and has the right amount of sugar and spice, I'm the one!I am a LOCAL ADOPTION only until my neuter is done April 29thMy adoption fee is $600 plus sales tax $27= $627 My adoption fee helps cover all of my vetting needs such as HW test, rabies, DHPPL, Bordetella, neuter and microchipping.

Adoption Process
Usually we are contacted by a SD shelter about a dachshund that is not doing well (nipping etc.) and that they are going to be put down. We take them in get them vetted and then place them up for adoption after they have been evaluated. We also take calls from folks who have called their local shelter about there dachshund that may have started nipping at small children etc and are told the dog would be put down. We also take calls from other rescues about breeder dogs.

Look for other dogs for adoption!
