Emmet County Animal Shelter

We live in a primarily rural area with a 50% poverty level and 40% non Caucasian/transient population. Due to the farmer mentality or disposable mentality of our area many pets find them selves homeless due to no fault of their own. We take in animals that are neglected, abandon, injured or just unwanted. We rehabilitate them and then re-home them through our adoption process. We have been solely foster based since 2010 and are currently building our new facility. We do it all with volunteers and we do it because we love it! The animals deserve better and we try our best to offer them that by doing what we can, when we can, the best we can, with what we have and with all our heart.

Meet Otis

Courtesy post!  This is Otis and he is in need of a new home due tensions in the family.  Otis is very energetic and loves to rough house with the other dogs in the home but if he sees his dad loving on his mom he gets jealous and that is creating an issue in his family.  Otis is almost 2 years old loves people and gets along with other dogs but does play hard so other playful dogs his size would be best.  He has a cat in his home that he would love to play with but the cat says no thanks!  He has not been around little kids but he is still an excited pup so little kids might get knocked down.  He is great in a car and does well on a leash.  He is struggling with kennel training and will have an accident is left too long but he does well in the house as long as some one is around to let him out when he asks.  He loves to play ball but not fetch.  More just you throw the ball and he will get it and squeak it while running around.  At 55 pounds he is a medium boy but very athletic.  He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped.  Please let us know if  you have any questions as we would love to re-home this boy with out him having to come in to the shelter!  Thanks!
