Last Hope Animal Rescue

Last Hope Animal Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Formed in March of 2004, we are an all volunteer animal rescue group comprised of foster homes in the greater Cedar Rapids area. Many of our animals come from local kill shelters, as their time has run out due to any number of reasons including lack of space, not deemed adoptable, special needs, etc. Our purpose is to save as many homeless, abused, abandoned, hard to place, neglected animals that we can and to place as many animals as possible into loving, forever homes where they will be cherished.

Meet Gerber

We aren't sure if Gerber is a chihuahua, dachshund, or min pin mix, but one thing is for sure this little guy is going to make someone a terrific companion! He has a beautiful brindle coat and delicate features, although don't be fooled - Gerber is an active and playful dog! His foster family jokes that he could easily join the circus as he jumps into the air with ease, and if you're lucky he'll teach you to catch him in your arms (or at the very least he'll never struggle to jump into your chair!)   Gerber will bond to his new person quickly, he'll easily fit into a home with other dogs and he doesn't seem to mind cats either! Gerber earned his name when he was brought into animal control and the only thing he would readily eat was baby food.  He's come a long way from his days of being a picky eater, he's now happily eating dog food and has had a recent dental procedure to ensure his mouth was healthy and happy.   If you are looking for a dog that is equal parts lap dog and playful companion, consider Gerber! He'll love playing in your yard with you and can easily run along with bigger dogs that enjoy a playful companion.   Gerber's adoption fee is $250and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccines and heartworm testing, a recent dental and current monthly preventatives. Gerber is seeking an indoor only home, if you would like to meet him please submit an adoption application through our website for consideration, Adopthope.org.  Last Hope requires that adopters have a history of having kept their pets altered, kept current on annual vaccines and vet care and as indoor pets only. Our adoption process includes a vet history check and a home visit.

Adoption Process
Prior to adoption, all of our dogs have been tested for heartworm, current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, and spayed or neutered, if age appropriate. Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and home visit. The adoption fee for dogs and puppies varies. Prior to adoption, our cats have been tested for feline leukemia, current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, and spayed or neutered, if age appropriate. If at the time of adoption, the kitten is too young to be spayed or neutered, an agreed upon time frame will be set for when this procedure is to be done. Spaying or neutering is not an optional procedure, it is required of all animals we rescue. The adoption fee for cats and kittens varies.
