Last Hope Animal Rescue

Last Hope Animal Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Formed in March of 2004, we are an all volunteer animal rescue group comprised of foster homes in the greater Cedar Rapids area. Many of our animals come from local kill shelters, as their time has run out due to any number of reasons including lack of space, not deemed adoptable, special needs, etc. Our purpose is to save as many homeless, abused, abandoned, hard to place, neglected animals that we can and to place as many animals as possible into loving, forever homes where they will be cherished.

Meet Apollo

Extra handsome….Check! Extra short legs…Check! Extra adorable and outgoing…Also Check! Apollo is a dog that checks SO many boxes! At around 3 years old, he’s a unique looking medium-ish sized dog. Check out the long and lean back, but be sure not to miss the short and stout legs! Maybe he’s a shepherd mix, but maybe he’s a basset mix? Doesn’t matter, he’s a mix of all the best things! Friendly, athletic and excited to just have fun!    Apollo has not been introduced to cats yet, we do find him to be very curious of small animals outside on a leash. Apollo is friendly with all people but may be best suited with older kids (no toddlers or infants please). If you have a medium or large sized dog currently, we would be happy to try an introduction - bonus points if your dog looks like Scooby Doo and could use a companion that looks like Scrappy Doo!    Apollo’s adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccines, heartworm test and monthly preventatives. Apollo is seeking a home as an indoor dog, if you would like to meet him please submit an application through our website, Adopthope.org. Last Hope requires that adopters have a history of having kept their pets; altered, kept current on annual vaccines and vet care and kept as indoor pets only. Our adoption process includes a vet history check and a home visit.

Adoption Process
Prior to adoption, all of our dogs have been tested for heartworm, current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, and spayed or neutered, if age appropriate. Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and home visit. The adoption fee for dogs and puppies varies. Prior to adoption, our cats have been tested for feline leukemia, current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, and spayed or neutered, if age appropriate. If at the time of adoption, the kitten is too young to be spayed or neutered, an agreed upon time frame will be set for when this procedure is to be done. Spaying or neutering is not an optional procedure, it is required of all animals we rescue. The adoption fee for cats and kittens varies.
