Meet Max

Hello! Let me introduce myself. My name is Max, and I am a 9.5-month-old, male, purebred German Shepherd. I weigh about 57 lbs. right now. I came into rescue as an owner surrender with his siblings Sage and Hunter, but we have been in different foster homes since the end of January. I was born 6/13/2023. I didn't have much experience with anything outside the walls of my owner's home until I came to live with my foster. I didn't know how to interact with other dogs outside the home. Everything was scary for me, and I was very overwhelmed by even the slightest noise and anything new. Things have really changed for me, and I am now a much more confident, outgoing boy and ready for my new family. I am doing great with other dogs and the cats in my foster home. I do well in the kennel when I have to be in there. I am also house trained which I know you humans like. I am an overall calm boy that does really well with my baths and grooming. My foster momma says I am amazing, and she can even see the qualities of a therapy dog in me. I am going through professional training now and making improvements every day. I really need someone to continue this training because it makes me feel confident and like I am pleasing the people around me. I love having a job because it keeps my mind engaged and my people happy. When I do good at my job my foster momma gives me lots of praise and treats and then I get to go run and run with my foster (dog) brother until we get so tired we need a lap.  German Shepherds are an intelligent, loyal, working breed. They need an outlet for their physical and mental well-being. Applicants must have a plan for how to train and exercise Hunter every day to avoid his getting bored and developing undesirable behaviors as he grows into an adult dog. Applicants must be willing to sign up for our referred training program, have a fenced yard (preferrable), and recent experience owning or having owned and trained a German Shepherd or similar working dog breed. APPLICATIONS RECEIVED NOT MEETING THESE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. Siblings: Sage (F)  Max (M)  Hunter (M) If you are interested in meeting Max, please complete an online application at https://hopeanimalrescueofiowa.duplie.com/forms/196/dog-application Adoption fee is $300 which includes spay/neuter, microchip, and age appropriate vaccines.
