Wish Bone Canine Rescue

several people broke off from a local rescue that had become, in our opinion, too much about prestige and money. They also weren't doing a good job in caring for the pets physically and mentally. We want to focus on the quality of our work, not quantity. We do rescue simply because it's the right thing to do! I am a certified vet tech so i've always thought that it's kind of my duty to share my talents.

Meet Huey

Huey has the power of love! This 10 month old Shiba Inu weighs 22 lbs, and is a classic, intelligent, playful, happy doggo! Huey is like a typical Shiba and more cat-like, always moving around with somewhere to be and people to see. He may never be a typical family dog that likes to sit for a treat. He is VERY cuddly and affectionate. He craves physical closeness and contact with humans and other dogs, plus he also shares food and toys and attention perfectly well with other dogs. He loves playing with his foster canine siblings, playing with toys (fetch and frisbee are his favorites), chewing on bones, and going for car rides. Huey is both house trained and crate trained, though he doesn't care much for the crate, since he likely spent a lot of time in them in his prior life. He loves sleeping on a dog bed in his foster parents room. We think he'll do best in a home with kids over the age of 6 years who can also give him attention. As for the kind of home Huey would thrive in, it would be one that gives lots of mental and physical stimulation, and a canine playmate would really help. He may never fully want to walk on a leash, so a large fenced yard would set him up for success if that is the case. He also isn't a fan of a tie-out (he prefers the freedom to run and explore the yard), and he can escape a harness since he's very smart! His foster mom does have hope for him to become great on the leash long-term, if his new owner is willing to be patient and do regular positive training on leash. We highly recommend an adopter with Shiba Inu breed experience. Huey is such a gentle, friendly, quiet, and loving dog. He is also funny and goofy, and attaches fast to his person. He looks like an adult but is still very much a puppy at heart! Huey is a sensitive dog and he reacts well to gentle cues and a kind approach. His future family will win the dog lottery in him! His minimum adoption fee is $300 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
