Benewah Humane Society

Hope's Haven Animal Shelter (Benewah Humane Society) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are the only animal shelter in the county (the area we cover is approximately 787 square miles). We are run by dedicated staff and volunteers who spend much of their own time and money caring for homeless pets. Our mission is to spay/neuter all animals, find homes for needy animals, and educate the public on pet care and spay/neuter programs. Millions of animals are needlessly euthanized every year, and we would like to lower these terribly large numbers. We are a "no-kill" shelter with a full house and a waiting list for incoming pets. Some of our volunteers foster animals in their own homes when we are too full to take any more animals. We assist law enforcement in investigating cases of suspected abuse or neglect. We rescue abandoned, lost, or animals in distress. Every effort is made to find the owners and/or find happy endings for these animals.Clothes for families in emergency situations or with foster children are made available at no cost from our thrift store.

Meet Clementine

Say hello to Miss Clementine! She is approximately 2 years old and just the sweetest little lady ever! We believe she is a Great Pyrenees mix and came in with her sister Heidi after they where found out in Harrison running. It does take some time for both girls to warm up to you but boy once they to they can not get close enough! Clementine can not go to a home with small children because of her lack of confidence and big size. . She would do just fine in a home with cats (she's scared of them) and possibly another dog IF INTRODUCED CORRECTLY. She did come in with a pretty nasty abscess and that is why her side is shaved, she has since been treated and cleared by the vet! If you are interested in meeting her please call us at 208-245-7387. Adoption includes all vaccinations, worming, flea and ear mite treatment, spay/neuter and any medical treatment needed while staying with us, and they also come with a full check up from a veterinarian.

Adoption Process
We ask various questions like what are you looking for in an animal, do you rent or own your own home. If you rent we need a letter from you landlord saying it is ok for you to get a dog or a cat. We have an application that we will have you fill out if you are coming to adopt a dog or a cat. We ask if they have any other animals so we know what ones would be the best fit for them. Adoption fees include a health screening, neuter/spay, vaccinations, de-worming, microchip (dogs only), and other medications as needed. Our fees are lower than other animal shelters in the surrounding areas. Our goal is to find great homes and great matches for our animals and the families adopting. Our adoption fees are $65 for kittens or a cat. $150 for a puppy or a dog. Our requirements are you must be 18 or older to adopt, show ID. If they have a dog and are looking to get another dog we ask them to bring their dog to do a meet and greet so we know that the dogs will get along. Then they do sign a contract that says they are going to provide for them food, water and shelter. Taking them to the vet if they need it.
