Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Rally

***Rally is with a loving foster near Flemington, NJ.  An application for his adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com. Questions about Rally and/or our adoption event should be sent to [email protected]; please do not call the rescue's phone number.*** Shortly after wrapping up a concert in Macon, GA, Grammy award winning Jazz singer/songwriter Nicole Zuraitis came across a stray dog and her five puppies lying in the grass in front of an abandoned house. With a heavy amount of compassion in her heart, Nicole not only left food for the stray mom and pups, she also began contacting rescues to see who could help them but wasn't having much luck as every place she contacted was packed full. With just a day left before she was to head overseas to perform concerts in Europe, Nicole finally made contact with SoCo Rescue. After sharing Nicole's post about the dogs, a fellow rescuer Shawna Simmons, was able to help find a foster for mom and pups until we could get them into our rescue. Luckily, the foster decided to adopt the mom and on April 12, we were able to get the five pups.  Rally didn't have any hesitation in accepting humans as friends like his siblings did when they first arrived. In fact, he has been very instrumental in helping his brothers also become very accepting of people. Rally is vey affectionate, playful yet calm and is a very quick learner.  Rally has received all of his first year "puppy" vaccinations, de-wormings and started on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. He's also been neutered. He will do best in a home without a lot of commotion and would benefit from having another dog in the home.  *Mom pictured**

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)
