Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Lyra

***Lyra and her siblings are is with a loving foster near Ringoes, NJ. An application for Lyra'a adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to Register or Login. Questions about Lyra and/or our adoption policy should be sent to [email protected]; please do not call the rescue's number.*** Lyra’s foster mom writes…this beautiful soul will win your heart right away.  She was scared in beginning without her littermates but have now learned to trust.  She surprises me daily with how smart & well behaved she is.  She sleeps thru the night, no accidents in her xpen, lives to snuggle, loves to play ball & enjoys other positive fur friends.  I have nothing but great things to say about her!!  She is easy to love! ———- Lyra and her eight siblings came in as owner surrenders. The pups, only 7-8 weeks old at the time, had not received any of their required vaccinations or de-wormings and were left to roam freely around the property which was littered with trash, broken down vehicles and other unsanitary conditions. upon their arrival to SoCo Rescue, we immediately began administering their vet care. Lyra is a very playful, friendly and well socialized pup. We found out during her photo shoot that he loves the water as Lyra and all of his siblings made a dash towards our pond and jumped in it! We're expecting him to grow to be a large dog. Lyra is great candidate as a family companion Lyra has now received all of her first year "puppy" vaccinations, de-wormings and other preventative care. She's also been started on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. Lyra's adopter must agree to having her spay once she reaches 6 months of age and provide verification of such to our rescue. Lyra will need all of her basic training.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)
