Meet Clover (GA)
Clover says, "I'm not green; I don't have four leaves. But if you pick me, you may be the luckiest person in the world." Why is that? Because when 2-year-old Clover picks YOU to be her #1, you'll be getting the prettiest, spunkiest, funniest 12 lbs. of rat terrier ever! How does one qualify to be Clover's pick? First, you'll need to know how to gain her trust through respecting her tendency to be shy. Whether shyness is embedded in her DNA or comes from her experience as a stray prior to ending up in a shelter (or both), Clover may startle and jump at loud noises or sudden movements. If she runs to the other room, don't chase her! She'll just run faster and farther. Patience, peacefulness, and predictability will win her trust. Second, she would prefer NOT having to share you with other people or dogs. She can accept person #2, but they may always play second fiddle to you. She also gets along with the other small dogs in her foster home, but she would rather have all your attention for herself. Finally since you two will be an item, she wants you around most of the time. That way, you'll get to enjoy the complete Clover--the one who snuggles and warms your lap AND the one who'll keep you laughing at her crazy antics. She does a great impression of Kramer from Seinfeld when she's possessed by an energy burst. Clover is reliably house-trained if kept on a regular schedule. She's OK walking on leash and harness but prefers a fenced yard for play and potty time. Remember, it's OK to be picky when you're looking for that life-long buddy, and if you really want to get lucky, pick Clover!
