Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Max

***Max is with a loving foster in Ringoes, NJ.  An application for his adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to register or login). Questions about Max and/or our adoption policy should be sent to [email protected]; please do not call the rescue's number.*** Max's former owner took him into our vet's office and asked that he be euthanized. This request didn't come about due to any illness or behavioral issues, in fact, he was in perfect health both physically and mentally. The only reason for this request was that his former owner simply no longer wanted him. Knowing that Max didn't deserve this fate, our vet's office asked us to save his life by taking him in, which we were more than happy to do. Max is a fun-loving, very playful and friendly dog. He quickly attaches to new people, loves playing with other dogs and has a very happy disposition.  Not only did he deserve to live, Max will reward his adopter by becoming a great addition into just about any home. His ideal home will allow him plenty of room to run and play.  Max has already been neutered and had all of his annual vaccinations and de-wormings renewed. He's also been kept on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives and did test negative for heartworms. He does know some basic commands, is accustomed to staying in a crate and walks well on a leash. He has some house training but may need additional training once in a new home.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)
