Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Fabio

***Fabio is currently located at our rescue in Georgia. He is also scheduled to attend our upcoming adoption event at adoption at the Tractor Supply in Ringoes, NJ over the May 31 weekend. An application for his adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to register or login). Questions about Fabio and/or our adoption policy should be addressed to [email protected]; please do not call the rescue's phone number.*** For almost a year, a couple noticed a stray female dog roaming the streets in Mt. Vernon, GA. With this stray dog was also an older puppy who was obviously from a previous litter. Earlier this year, the stray took up residence at an abandoned house across the street from the couple's home. The couple was able to catch the pups once they were weaned and brought them to SoCo Rescue. From that litter came Fabio and his seven siblings. While we're not sure what became of the older pup, the couple was able to befriend the mom, decided to give her a home and have also now had the mom spayed and fully vetted, thus ending her reproduction of more puppies.  Thanks to the help of the couple and our staff, Fletcher and his siblings are all very well socialized towards humans. Fabio is also very playful, happy and loves interacting with other pups. Fabio will make a wonderful addition into just about any home situation and, with proper training, should grow to be a great family companion. Fabio has now received all three of his first year "puppy" vaccinations, de-wormings and started on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. His adopter must agree to having Fabio neutered once he reaches 6 months of age and provide verification of such to our rescue. Fabio will require all of his basic training.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)
