Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Leo

***Leo is currently located at our rescue in Georgia. He is scheduled to be at our upcoming adoption event at Tractor Supply in Ringoes, New Jersey over the May 4-5 weekend. An application for his adoption should be submitted on our web page at socorescue.com by clicking on the Adopt tab and then following the links to the Adoption application (no need to register or login). Questions about Leo and/or our adoption policy should be sent to [email protected]; please no phone calls.***   Leo and his five brothers were apparently abandoned in the Dublin, GA area. A man found them at the end of March along an isolated road when they were approximately 3 months old. The litter of six Hound mix pups were scared, hungry and in need of help. Once their required "stray hold" period had expired and no one reclaimed the pups, we were asked to take the puppies into our rescue.    Leo and his brothers are very friendly, playful and get along great with other pups.  Despite being a little reserved when first encountering new people or new things, they are very inquisitive, eager to explore and quickly become accepting of such new things. They also have that laid-back, easy-going personality that is found with most Hound breeds, such as Basset Hounds, and are not overly hyper.     As of April 22, Leo has received 2/3 of his first year "puppy" vaccinations, de-wormings and other required vet care. His adopter must agree to having Leo neutered once he reaches 6 months of age and provide SoCo with verification of such. Leo will require all of his basic training.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)
