Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet JuJu

***JuJu is currently located at and available for adoption through our rescue in GA. With an approved applications. JuJu can be transported north and available for adoption at the Tractor Supply in Ringoes, NJ. An application for his adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com (no need to register or login). Questions about JuJu and/or our adoption process should be submitted at [email protected]; please do not call the rescue's number.*** JuJu's journey began when his former owner surrendered him to our rescue in December 2024. Not even 3 months old at the time, JuJu was not very well socialized towards people and would shy away from any contact with his human counterparts. Instead of rushing him to an adoption event, JuJu was placed into one of our wonderful foster homes here in GA. and, boy, did that help! His transformation over the four months at the home was so amazing that we wondered if he was the same dog that we had sent to them! JuJu has continued to exhibit a very friendly and well-socialized personality since returning to us. He has made friends with every dog that he's interacted with and simply loves to "waddle" up to our staff to get a belly rub. You'll love how his long, slender body kind of wiggles as he walks. JuJu is already a big boy and still has some growing to do, so a home that allows plenty of room to run and lots of exercise (walks, hikes, etc) would suit him best. Despite his large size, JuJu is a very calm and gentle dog. JuJu did very well with his house training while at the foster home. He's learned some of his basic commands, walks very well on a leash and is even crate trained. He's up to date with all of his annual vaccinations, de-wormings and monthly preventatives and has also been neutered. All he needs is a family to love and a home to call his own.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)
