Meet Marvin

LOOKING FOR A GREAT MATCH:  Approx. 8 years old / Approx. 9 lbs.    Hi, my name’s Marvin!  I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control.  I am so glad to be in a loving foster home while I wait for my new family to find me!  Come meet me soon and see if I am your new furry friend!  I came in heartworm positive, but I'll be treated for that soon. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I met some dogs recently at Mostly Mutts and although I didn’t want to play with them, I also didn’t show any aggression.  I don’t mind my foster’s dogs either, one who is much bigger than me (60 lbs.) and another about my size (12 lbs.).  When they come to sniff me, I will wag my tail in approval.  If you have a nice dog at home, let’s meet and see if we can be pals.  / There are some nice kitties in my foster home who come and sniff me, rub up against me, etc. and I just stand there and let them!  I’m very tolerant of them and their curiosity about me so if you have a nice kitty at home already, let’s meet! / I met kids at Mostly Mutts (age 10+) and liked them.  However, in both of my foster homes, I started to guard my favorite person when company came over, so older kids such as teens and up will be best, and of course, let’s meet!         • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I am a sweet boy with a fun nature.  I love to relax and snuggle up to you.  I earned the reputation as a ‘velcro dog’ in my temporary foster home that I was in for 4 days – following my foster mom everywhere. I was cuddly and loving during my stay there.  My new foster mom agrees, stating that I should have been named ‘Shadow’ – I just love to be with my people!  I did start showing some guarding behaviors of my person and Mostly Mutts will be happy to help you with training to overcome that behavior as it is trainable. Since I respond well to verbal correction, my foster mom has given me a firm ‘no’ when I begin to guard, and this has helped me recognize that this is not a good boy behavior.  I was also sweet, fun, and friendly with the photographer when it was my time for a photo shoot!  / My energy level is currently 2-4. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  In my temporary foster home, I learned the ‘stay’ command, and was working on ‘sit’ and ‘place’ and showed good leash manners.  I love to learn and my new foster is working with me also so check back to see what else I master! / I don’t like being crated at Mostly Mutts as it seems to scare me and I acted tough in it when people approached me, so they moved me to a little room and I liked that better.  In my foster home, they use a baby gate to keep me in their room while they are away and I’m alright with that.  They also leave the TV on for me and I seem to enjoy that too.  I am vocal when I don’t like something, or when I need something, so an apartment/condo type home likely wouldn’t be the best home for me.  / My potty habits are pretty good on the shelter schedule, though I have done some marking.  I respond well to verbal correction, so when I marked once in my new foster home, they verbally corrected me, and I have not done it since.  My neuter and training should also help with that. • LIKES/DISLIKES:  I’m an affectionate guy who loves to collect cuddles. I love laps and being near my person. Napping and snuggling are my favorite things!  The volunteers have discovered that I love to sit out on the benches outside the shelter. Taking in the spring breeze and getting some pets, I can’t think of anything better!  I’m also a treat fan, and I am learning to take them more gently.  It helps to offer the treat in an open palm with the word ‘gentle’ before offering.  / I don’t like to be left alone too much, so I would love a stay-at-/work-from-home family member.  Otherwise, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered.  I have luxating patellas, which are not uncommon in small dogs. I take a daily joint supplement, Cosequin, to help my joints feel their best.  I also walk best with a harness, so it doesn’t push on my trachea making me cough. Unfortunately, my previous owner did not keep me on a monthly heartworm preventative, so I am heartworm positive.  Mostly Mutts will cover the cost of my treatment with their vet, so local adoption only, please. I am looking for a home where I will be a much-loved family member!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.
