Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Mikey

***Mikey is currently with a loving foster home in Ringoes, NJ. An application for his adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com. Questions about Mikey and/or our adoption policy should be sent to [email protected]. Please no phone calls.***  Mikey and his sister Madison were found by one of our foster families living at an old gas station. They were barely surviving off of the few scraps of food that they could find and in great need of help. Our foster took the siblings under her care and helped nurse them back to health.  Mikey is a very personable dog. He seems to love everyone he meets, has gotten along great with other dogs (not good with cats) and has spent los of time around children. While still active, he's not overly hyper and after a week with his NJ foster family he learned how to sit. Overall, Mikey is one very good dog who'll make a great family companion.  Mikey has been neutered, kept up to date on his annual vaccinations and other preventative care. He recently tested negative for heartworms and should be kept on a monthly heartworm preventative to ensure he stays free of them. We would suggest a meet-and-greet with any other dogs that he would share a home with. He will require additional house training.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)

Look for other dogs for adoption!
