Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Madison

***Madison is currently with a loving foster family near Ringoes, NJ. An application for her adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com. Questions about Madison and/or our adoption policy should be sent to [email protected]. Please no phone calls.***  Madison and her brother, Mikey, were found by one of our foster families living at an old gas station. They were barely surviving off of the few scraps of food that they could find and in great need of help. Our foster took the siblings under her care and helped nurse them back to health.  Madison is a very friendly, very affectionate girl but is a little shy when first meeting new people. But give her a few minutes and she'll be more than happy to become friends. It's that slight shyness that also helps her have a calmer, laidback personality. She's also great with other dogs as well. While she's seen cats and only shows minimal interest in them, we can't yet say that she'll coexist with them.    It would be wonderful if Madison & Mikey could stay together, we know it’s a big ask.  They are not bonded but surely love each other.    Madison has been spayed, kept up to date on her annual vaccinations and other preventative care. We would suggest a meet-and-greet with any other dogs that she would share a home with. She will require additional house training.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)

Look for other dogs for adoption!
