Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc. is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and rehomes abused, unwanted and abandoned companion animals.Southern Comfort was founded in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, to provide shelter and find temporary foster or permanent homes for pets left behind when troops in nearby Ft. Stewart's 3rd Infantry Division shipped out to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, the organization moved to Glenwood, Georgia. Southern Comfort fills a critical need in Wheeler County, which has no other rescues or animal control. We specialize in physical, social and emotional rehabilitation of our rescues. All animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before being placed in carefully screened forever homes.Southern Comfort is a "no-kill" rescue and only euthanizes in cases of irremediable suffering or vicious and dangerous animals. We also work to raise public awareness of the plight of homeless animals and promote the benefits of adopting an animal in need through community outreach and education.

Meet Trixie

***Trixie will be available for adoption at Tractor Supply in Ringoes, NJ over the May 4th weekend. To apply for her adoption, please submit an application at socorescue.com by clicking on the Adopt tab (no need to register or login). Questions about Trixie and/or our adoption process should be sent to [email protected]. Please do not call the rescue's number.***   Trixie and her seven siblings were found abandoned along a dirt road in a very rural area of Wrightsville, GA.  A man found them in a box while he was driving home from work, apparently left there by some uncaring person. The man scooped up the pups and brought them to our rescue. The pups were in poor condition, looked as if they hadn't had a good meal in a few days and, as we learned, had contracted a potentially deadly parasite called Coccidia. The SoCo Rescue staff was dedicated to saving the litter and their efforts paid off wonderfully as all of the pups were saved.    We're not positive but we believe the pups may be a Lab mix, but also thinking they'll be smaller than the average lab, maybe in the 30-40lb range once fully grown. Each of the pups are very outgoing, playful and affectionate. They're wiggly, snuggly and always smiling. While they're energetic as a group, they become lab babies when alone with a person. They'll make great companions for families with children who know how to properly handle a pup.    Trixie is the runt of this litter, being almost half the size of her largest sibling. But this little darling has the biggest heart and strongest determination of any puppy you've seen. Being so small, Trixie almost succumbed to the parasite that invaded her tiny body. But she fought back and refused to give in, and with the aid of medications and TLC, Trixie came roaring back to good health! And now, she's ready to find someone to love.   She's received all of her first year  "puppy" vaccines including her Bordetella and rabies vaccines.  She's also been de-wormed and treated against parasites, started on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives.  Her adopter must agree to having her spay once she reaches the age of reproducing (typically 6 months or as directed by their veterinarian*) and providing verification of such to SoCo Rescue. Trixie will require all of her basic training.

Adoption Process
we have an adoption questionnaire as well as a contract. The only fees we charge are those we are charged for the animal (vet fees)
