Precious and Snowball need to be adopted as a pair because they are bonded. They have lived together for the past few years and are extremely attached to each other doing everything together including sleeping curled up to each other. Each is equally dependent on the other. Precious is an 8-year-old 12-pound female tan Pomeranian mix Snowball is a 4-year-old 12-pound male white Poodle mix NOTE: The 4LD database system is set up in a way that requires each dog to be entered separately so you will see both Precious and Snowball in the list of available dogs. For your application select either dog to submit it under and your one application will be considered as interested in both. They are two of the happiest, friendliest dogs you will ever meet. They constantly wag their tails (often at the same time) and are enthusiastic about life. The dogs’ favorite activity is following humans around the house. When the foster mother gets up the dogs get up too wondering if “all of us” are going to the kitchen or are “all of us” going to the family room. If she goes into a room that has dog beds or sofas the dogs who followed her immediately jump into them. Or if she goes to the laundry room to move clothes from the washer to the dryer she experiences a dog on each side of her wanting to be involved. It is adorable to watch them be so dedicated. Precious and Snowball will mutually greet their foster family by getting up on their hind legs stretching up as high as possible on the human leg to be able to be petted. They get so excited – it just bubbles up inside of them that their tails wag unbelievably fast. Even if the foster family member simply walks beside them in their dog beds or on the couch their tails wag in delight. Their behavior will brighten anyone’s day. Dog beds…dog beds…dog beds – Precious and Snowball love them! They will each lay in a dog bed then switch to another bed or even crawl into the bed where the other is to share it. And if they see a human lap open (such as the foster father), they will quickly jump into it. They are both intelligent and have instantly memorized the foster home layout including the doggie door. The two dogs love playing with each other. One will start tackling the other and they will go round and round with one on top or the other on top. The foster family loves watching them interact because they are having so much fun. They will also play tug-of-war each grabbing an end of a long toy pulling back and forth and sometimes even walking while do so (talent!). Snowball loves going on walks and car rides. Once his leash is put on, he runs to the door wanting to go-go-go and will walk for 30 minutes or jump in an open car door. Precious is a bit hesitant to leave the house because she likes the security of being inside and near her toys. Both are fully potty trained. They run out to the yard, pee/poop, and run back in. Although both do love sunbathing so sometimes lay down to enjoy themselves. Some traits that are different between the dogs are that Precious absolutely loves toys playing on her own and Snowball entertains himself by rolling around. Also Precious is a bit calmer and loves to give kisses while Snowball is a bit goofier and more impulsive. Otherwise, they are very much alike and do what the other is doing or hangs out where the other is. The dogs have been quiet in the foster house. The only exception is if someone enters the house like a repairman they constantly bark because of the uncertainty and being protective of the foster family. Once held in the foster’s arms they relax realizing no threat. They are being cared for in a foster house with another dog and are fine with her. Precious and Snowball are more interested in what each other is doing and being with each other, not really the other dog. Therefore 4LD feels if there is another dog already living in the adopter’s household it should be OK. Precious and Snowball recently had a rough life. They were found living with very long hair matted with a lot of dirt and were covered in fleas. The dogs were sometimes allowed to run free in the streets dodging cars and other dangers. Due to the circumstances of being forced to survive Precious and Snowball became very bonded learning to depend on each for security. Precious is older and her life changed when she was not able to be taken care of by her recent owner. Snowball is younger and sadly was accustomed to that current lifestyle which is why he is so dependent on Precious since she was always around to guide and comfort him through the bad conditions. 4LD recognized this dependency so the foster family fostered both dogs at the same time which led to the necessary requirement of them being adopted together. The foster family noticed that the two dogs adjusted very quickly to their foster house because both were still together. Even on the first night at the new foster house the two dogs insisted on sleeping side-by-side to feel comfortable and safe. The dogs came into the 4LD with treatable health issues like flea dermatitis and an eye infection. All the problems that could be taken care of were solved. But from their history each has a permanent injury and are not bothered by them. Precious has two small chunks missing from the top of her ear due to something that bit her. The ear area is completely healed and is not sensitive or painful when touching it. Snowball has a cataract on his eye possibly due to a head trauma or was born that way. He sees fine and does not notice any difference. A benefit of adopting these two dogs is that the adopter who wants to be a multi-pet family will know that these two dogs already get along very well. When Precious and Snowball are left alone no separation anxiety occurs because they are with each other. And when going in the yard for the bathroom when one dogs pees the other dog immediately wants to pee in the same location so both have their outside needs taken care of very swiftly. On a regular routine day having two dogs is not much extra work for the foster family because Precious and Snowball eat at the same time, pee/poop at the same time, and sleep at the same time. Precious’ and Snowball’s combined adoption fee is $500 (both dogs for this price). These dogs come microchipped, spayed/neutered, up to date on all necessary vaccines/rabies shots, heartworm tested, and dewormed. They are currently being fostered in the Plant City/Valrico Florida area. 4LD is excited that they will be getting a fresh start with adopters who are willing to care and keep both together for the rest of their lives. ***We are a foster-based rescue with no shelter or facility to view our dogs, and our address is a mailing address only. Please be patient as we are an all-volunteer rescue, and our rescue dogs are in various loving foster homes throughout West-Central Florida. As a general rule we try to limit our adoptions to within the state of FL. If interested in one of our dogs, please fill out a foster or adopt application at www.4luckydogs.org, and we will contact you by phone/text if we feel your application is the best fit out of the ones received.*** INFORMATION ON BONDED DOGS The definition of bonded is two animals that have a significant relationship so need to be adopted together. They show closeness, continued physical contact, signs of affection, comfort each other, sleep together, eat at the same time, and protect each other. Bonded pairs are typically dogs that are over three years old that have lived together for years and will show signs of stress or depression when they're separated from each other. Bonded pairs share a special connection. If bonded dogs are adopted together the animals will have a positive and healthy relationship and if not are at risk of becoming stressed, anxious, or even depressed when they are apart. Separating them could cause problems like refusing to eat, destructive behavior, or other health issues. There are cases where animals stop eating and completely shut down if removed from their ‘other’ half. Keeping them together ensures they are both happy and healthy and have the security and comfort of each other during what can be a stressful situation. They can be there for each other during the transition period into a new home. Some benefits to adopting bonded pairs are they keep each other company and engage in day-to-day activities from eating to cuddling to grooming. They are best friends and playmates who find comfort in each other, and that familiarity can help reduce boredom, separation anxiety, and unwanted behaviors like barking and chewing. When their person is away, they have each other so stay entertained creating a feeling of reassurance for the owner knowing that dogs are happy at home. It can be a misconception that adopting two animals creates double the amount of work. Instead, animals on a similar schedule who also share supplies like water bowls, dog beds, and toys require almost the same amount of work as caring for a single animal. However, there are some increased costs when adopting bonded pairs because two pets mean double the food, monthly preventives, and vet visits, plus twice the grooming appointments and extra fees for pet boarding or dog walkers. But it also means double the companionship and fun. If you know you want to be a family that has more than one dog, adopting a bonded pair will get you to your goal faster and it offers an additional advantage of adopting two animals that you know already get along. Most animals thrive with companionship and bonded pairs have the comfort and security of something familiar to each other and provide double the joy for the humans.
