Meet Gidget ADOPTION PENDING

Gidget is a 6-year-old, 22-lb, shih tzu mix. She is a docile, go-with-the-flow couch potato who loves snuggling with her person on a warm blanket. But don’t let her chill nature fool you, she loves running around with her little plush squeaky toys and getting the nightly zoomies around the house. She rides well in the car, prefers sitting in your lap, but tolerates the back seat securely tethered in for safety. She loves to go outside and will go potty in the yard when taken out frequently. She was pee pad only trained, so her outside potty learning is a work in progress. She would do best with a family who is home more often than not to assist in her potty training. Gidget has a congenital deformity resulting in a curvature in her left wrist, but she doesn’t let this stop her from frolicking in the grass and fetching her favorite toys. She is a sweet, quiet little girl who only protectively barks when someone new comes to the door. She can be quite timid when approached to be picked up or shown a leash, but once on the leash, she adjusts quickly and loves her walks, although she does pull a little. She is definitely a people person, but she also loves the company of other dogs big and small and even loves cats. Gidget is not food or toy aggressive, but occasionally bares her teeth and snaps without warning if she is startled while resting, though she has never bitten. She loves kids, but due to this unpredictable snapping, if the home has kids, they should be older (age 10+)  who will understand and respect her boundaries.  Gidget will also run out an open or cracked door, and does not have recall, so preventative measures will need to be put into place prior to bringing her home. It would also be very beneficial to work with a trainer on recall training for her. She does not have separation anxiety, and waits patiently until her person returns. If you live in the Central Florida/ Orlando area and believe you have the perfect home for Gidget, please complete an application and tell us more about you.
