Meet Dakota

Dakota is a 9 ½ year old 12-pound Pomeranian Papillion mix. His foster family discovered he is a “happy little guy” wagging his tail and wanting to be involved in everything. He is a very calm dog just wanting to be by your side. He has had one owner since he was 10 weeks old and was the center of her life. He’s being rehomed because over the last two years the owner had two children who were both discovered to have dog allergies. His way of life significantly changed because he could not access areas of their house and his owners felt Dakota deserved to have a family that could give him attention and freedom so asked 4 Lucky Dogs to help. Dakota loves cuddles and kisses. He will sit on a lap any time one is available. He will lay at a person’s side when sick and attempt to heal with kisses if the person gets hurt. He craves treats (and knows the word) and appreciates being rewarded or cheered on. When someone comes inside the house, he/she receives a huge greeting from Dakota. He likes to follow people around the house and is content to lay next to them, but if they get up to walk around, he is right there with them. Or if the person relocated too fast for him to notice, he explores each room looking for where she went. He will go from dog bed to dog bed throughout the house to be closest to a human that is there. Dakota is extremely intelligent and learned where everything is in the foster house after only a couple of days. When the foster mother works from home Dakota positions himself on the dog bed next to the computer desk settling in for a nap or to just watch her.  He loves to be outside. His favorite thing to do is to take long walks and enjoy all the smells. He will run with people and relishes any outdoor adventure as their best friend. He also loves car rides wanting to be lifted into the car as soon as the door opens then once it is moving, he lays down peacefully waiting to get to his destination. The former owner recommends Dakota be the only dog in the new home because he is a bit possessive with his people and loves being the center of attention. He will play with other dogs on play dates or in doggie daycare but his temperament for them will not be the same constantly because he wants their concentration to be on him. She also said he is not comfortable with bigger dogs. After the foster family spent time with Dakota, they also concluded that he would be best as an only dog because that is how he lived the first years of his life. He gets along with the foster dog sister eating, walking, or hanging out in the same area, but Dakota wants to be with humans more not as a playmate for another dog. He is fully potty trained and knows commands such as sit, stay, leave it, and down. The average lifespan for this breed is 16 years. Therefore, Dakota’s adopter will need to be prepared to care for him for around 7 more years so he will not have to move to a different home again. Dakota’s adoption fee is $400. This dog comes microchipped, neutered, and up to date on all necessary vaccines/rabies shots. He is currently being fostered in the Valrico/Plant City, FL area.  ***We are a foster-based rescue with no shelter or facility to view our dogs, and our address is a mailing address only. Please be patient as we are an all-volunteer rescue, and our rescue dogs are in various loving foster homes throughout West-Central Florida. As a general rule we try to limit our adoptions to within the state of FL. If interested in one of our dogs, please fill out a foster or adopt application at www.4luckydogs.org, and we will contact you by phone/text if we feel your application is the best fit out of the ones received.***
