Humane Society of Kent County Maryland Inc.

As Kent County’s only animal shelter, we care for hundreds of animals each year, with the mindset that each and every single adoptable pet will receive food, shelter, medical attention and love until they’re home. We also focus on progressive programs that strengthen our community through our food pantry, lost and found services, rehoming support services and more.

Meet Aura

Meet Aura!Aura is a small hound mix with a heart as big as her ears. She may start off a little shy, but once she gets that first sniff in, she’ll decide you’re her person—and from that moment on, she’s all yours. Aura is incredibly sweet-natured, gentle, and affectionate, the kind of dog who just wants to be part of your world.Don’t let her shy side fool you—Aura is playful, fun, and full of joy once she warms up. She loves to play with toys, romp around with her people, and then settle in for cuddle time. One of her favorite tricks is sliding right in front of you, almost as if to say, “Hey, don’t forget me!” It’s her way of making sure she’s always part of the action (and always in line for belly rubs).Aura would thrive in a home that will give her a little patience at the start, plenty of love, and lots of opportunities to both play and snuggle. Once she feels safe, she bonds deeply and will quickly become your loyal shadow. If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle companion who will make you smile every single day and never let you feel alone, Aura is ready to slide her way right into your heart and home. If you are interested in meeting any of our animals, we encourage you to first visit our website and submit an adoption application: acskc.org/adoption/adoption-applicationOnce your adoption application has been approved, we will call you to set up an appointment to meet with the pet! We welcome adopters from out of state to apply! _When it comes to our pets, we're all-inclusive! Find out what's included when you adopt from ACSKC: https://acskc.org/adoption/before-you-adopt/#whats-included

Adoption Process
Once you’re ready to adopt, head over to our Adoption Application to fill out and submit the form. Once our Adoption Team has reviewed and approved your application, we will give you a call to schedule an appointment with the pet! When you arrive at ACSKC, you will be greeted by our Adoption Coordinator and taken to meet the pet, either in our Meet and Greet Room or one of the play yards. If you already have pets in the home, you may be asked to bring them with you for a meet and greet to ensure they will get along in the home (this typically only applies to dogs). If you and our Adoption Coordinator feel like it is a good match, we will then finalize the paperwork and send you home with a bag of goodies, including our “Welcoming Your New Pet Home Guide,” toys, treats and a sample bag of their pet food. If it is not a good match, you are welcome to meet the other available pets in the shelter. Your approved application will be kept on file for 90 days, so you’re encouraged to take your time before making a decision!
