Good Dog Rescue

Good Dog Rescue is a an all-breed rescue group headquartered in Enfield CT. Our group is comprised of volunteers all over Eastern United States who love dogs and want to help those that end up homeless through no fault of their own. Loyal and loving dogs turn up every day in Southern shelters, as owners turn them in or they’re found roaming the streets after being dumped. To the best of our abilities, we evaluate all of our Good Dogs’ temperament and suitability for living with other dogs, cats, and children. A dog’s health is checked, and we make sure they are up-to-date on all shots and are spayed or neutered. Then, we place them in loving foster homes until they find their very own family. Our goal is to meet the needs of each dog as an individual and to assure proper placement in a loving forever home. What We Do... Good Dog is dedicated to animal rescue. In addition to our primary goal of helping homeless and abandoned dogs, we - donate money to low-cost spay/neuter clinics in the south to help solve the problem of pet overpopulation; - engage in community outreach activities with local schools to help educate children and young adults about animal rescue and responsible pet ownership; - team with non-profit organizations that train rescued dogs to assist disabled people. More than a dozen of our Good Dogs have become certified service dogs, helping disabled people lead more independent lives. We are proud of the work we do with our good dogs and in our local communities. South to North ConnectionEvery month, dozens of our Southern Good Dogs ride the transport north to their new forever and foster homes. The USDA-licensed transport drives up every week to meet new forever and foster families at various locations along the Tennessee-New England route. Our Southern adoptions are long-distance and the dogs are taken directly home from the transport . We facilitate long-distance adoptions by the transfer of pictures and information about the dog, and we arrange to have the adopter speak to the dog's foster parents. When a dog is in a New England foster home, we are more than happy to arrange a pre-adoption meeting!

Meet Summer

To adopt please fill out an adoption application. Be sure to watch her video!  Summer is a beautiful 3yo female white German Shepherd Dog who was rescued as a stray in Memphis.  Friendly, well socialized, never meets a stranger!  Good with kids although recommended for older kids just due to her size and enthusiasm!  Fine with other dogs.  Not recommended for cats because she likes to chase them.  Playful with moderate activity level outside and settles down quickly in the house. Good house manners. Housebroken but not crated because she doesn’t need to be. Obeys basic commands.  Loves to be with her people.  When she first came to us, Summer had heartworms, but she was treated without complications and cured and is now ready for adoption. Healthy and fully vetted, current on shots, spayed, weighs about 80 pounds. AWESOME young GSD will make a great companion (and jogging partner) for an active family who loves the breed. Here’s a note from her foster mom.  This is Summer. She’s such a good dog! She’s dog friendly but a little too active for my 2 senior dogs who just want to sleep all day! But she is dog friendly.   Last month we were harassed by 2 stray dogs during our walk but Summer never fought back or showed any aggression and we were able to just hurry away. She’s very friendly with people, even strangers.  And good with kids. She’s somewhat obedience trained and knows some verbal/hand commands.  Summer’s ideal Adopter should have experience with GSD's, be able to spend a lot of time at home and enjoy an active lifestyle. Summer is a wonderful young dog and anybody who loves shepherds would be very happy with her. Adoption Process
The process to adopt a Good Dog includes: completion of an application phone interview with your dog’s adoption coordinator veterinary reference & personal references phone interview with your dog’s foster mom home visit adoption contract adoption fee of $525.00 (includes any transportation costs).
