To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application   HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see   HERE Age: 2 years (as of 08/01/25) Weight: 35 pounds (09/15/25) Location: RI Meet Scruffy, a 2-year-old Poodle mix who’s ready to start his new chapter up north! After spending the past month in foster care, Scruffy has shown himself to be affectionate, playful, and resilient. He enjoys fetch, squeaky toys, playgroups, hiking, and cuddling in a warm lap. He’s comfortable with adults, kids, cats, and dogs of all sizes, and he’s especially happy when he has a confident human to lean on. Scruffy is very tuned in to the energy of the people around him. With a calm, confident leader, he is lighthearted, goofy, and quick to join in the fun. With a nervous human, he mirrors that anxiety and becomes more concerned about his surroundings. With other dogs, he reads situations well—if he senses play, he jumps right in, but if another dog’s energy feels aggressive, he may freeze until he realizes he’s safe. Once reassured, he melts and takes off running happily. He thrives in home care and doggy daycare but tends to shut down in kennel or boarding settings, where he becomes withdrawn. Transport and new environments may leave him needing a few days to decompress and get his bearings. But with patience and steady reassurance, Scruffy blossoms into a loyal, affectionate companion. Quiet in his crate, tolerant of alone time, and eager to please, he just needs the right home to feel secure. If you can give Scruffy the calm guidance he craves, you’ll gain a faithful best friend for life. This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website:   Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl.org)   **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
