Meet Lenna *LOCAL*

To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application  HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see  HERE Age: ~ 10.5 Months (as of April 18, 2024) Weight: 35.4 lbs (as of April 18, 2024) Location: RI   This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.   Lenna's story is one of tragedy and triumph. At just 10 months old, this resilient hound mix faced the horrors of a disarticulation amputation of her right hind leg. Disarticulation amputation means the limb was removed by separating it from the joint, in this case, likely due to severe injury or mistreatment. Found in such a state, Lenna's condition must have been dire. Fortunately, fate intervened when Lenna found her way into the compassionate arms of our southern rescue partner, Wiley's Road Home, giving her a second chance at life and setting her on the path to healing.   Lenna was found to be lactating at the time, indicating that she had recently given birth. This discovery led volunteers on a desperate search for her puppies, revealing a heartbreaking truth: Lenna had been tied under a trailer, and all her puppies had tragically perished. Even though she must have endured tremendous darkness, pain and unknown horrors, Lenna's spirit remains unbroken. With the care and dedication of the rescue, her leg was treated, and she underwent surgical revision of the amputation, ensuring she could live a full and active life. From the very beginning and through her entire recovery, Lenna exudes happiness and love, eagerly greeting each new day with a wag of her tail and a bounce in her step. Her disposition has remained remarkably joyful. Lenna's resilience shines through in her interactions with people, her gentle nature a testament to the capacity for forgiveness and love.   She is a happy and loving dog who gets along well with others, including children and loves to spend time with her people. Lenna also gets along well with other dogs after a slow introduction, showcasing her resilience and ability to form bonds despite her traumatic past.   While Lenna has overcome tremendous challenges, she still has a journey ahead of her. At just 10 months old, she is still a puppy herself, with plenty of energy and a natural inclination to explore the world around her. As such it is crucial for her future family to provide her with appropriate chew toys and guidance, as well as physical activities ensuring that she can channel her energy in positive ways and continue to thrive. Lenna's journey is a testament to the power of love, compassion, and resilience. In spite of the darkness of her past, she has emerged as a shining example of strength and joy, reminding us all of the capacity for healing and renewal, even in the face of adversity.   Her affectionate nature and playful spirit make her the perfect companion for a loving family. Now, Lenna eagerly awaits the day when she can find her forever home, a place where she can be showered with love and affection, and where she can continue to inspire others with her resilience and unwavering spirit.   An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see  HERE  for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/   **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
