NorCal German Shepherd Rescue dba ShepHeroes

We are German Shepherd Dog owners who run an all volunteer 501c3 rescue aiming to make a difference in the lives of at risk shepherds in our communities. Our management teams individual range of rescue management experience ranges from 10 to 7 years. We formed a new organization to leverage new approaches and tools to rescuing dogs, our former organization's size and make up made it difficult to embrace developing trends and leverage resources.

Meet Archie

Another year, another amazing Sacramento SPCA Doggy Dash in the books! We’re always honored and grateful to be part of this annual event. Our adoptable pups, including Archie, were a hit. He enjoyed seeing his littermate Gus Gus and playing with Jouska and Puck, too. A huge heartfelt thank you to our volunteers who dedicated their time and travel to supporting us in spreading shepherd love (and glitter). Back to the sweet, affectionate, and happy little guy, our three-month-old handsome Archie! He's a solid-temperament pup who adores his humans and shares his home with the resident cat. Archie joins the pop-up playgroup at the neighborhood school for playdates with other dogs to get his canine time as he lives as a solo dog in his foster home. Archie spent a few days at a short-term foster home with three resident dogs while waiting for his current foster family to return from a trip. And was lovely with all of the big dogs. Archie settles in his pen, playing with his toys while his family works from home. He's mastered sleeping through the night in his crate and has made great strides in potty training. This little guy loves his soft bed and snuggles in for naps. Archie, despite needing some encouragement with treats for his first walk on a leash, quickly realizing that it leads to exciting adventures like playing with doggie friends and meeting more humans who are both treat dispensers and belly rubbers. He also discovered the joy of rolling around in grass, which has become his favorite pastime. Archie's first mirror experience was scary with his hackles up and barking, but then he realized it was himself. We love to see our pups in great foster homes and adoptive homes who understand that pups learn through supportive experiences to become neutral adult dogs. Thus, we lean towards adopters who have experience raising shepherds or similar working breed puppies and are committed to structure, sound environmental exposures, and training throughout their puppy and adolescent years. Archie arrived from the shelter with his three littermates, Gus Gus, Arlo, and Zeux. Due to space, they were on the euthanasia list five days after clearing their mandated hold period. We are so grateful to our community for saying yes to save their lives. The pups are well-adjusted, happy puppies that would have been adopted from shelters if not for the overwhelming number of litters ending up at rural and urban CA shelters.

Adoption Process
$400 puppies 12 months and under, $350 for 1-6 year olds, $200 for 7 and older. We have a comprehensive adoption application and do home visits approving adopters for levels of dogs and puppies. We have adoption agreements requiring return of dog to us for any reason.

Look for other dogs for adoption!
