Central Coast Herding Dog Rescue

Central Coast Border Collie Rescue (CCBCRescue) is dedicated to helping find homes for Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, Australian Cattle Dogs/Queensland Heelers and other herding breeds and mixes. This site lists dogs in shelters as well as dogs in homes and foster care, and is intended to help adopters seeking good dogs, and dogs seeking loving homes. Why we do it: Herding dogs are not for every one. Too many adopters get these dogs as status symbols only to find out, their life style doesn't meet these high energy dogs needs. As a result, these wonderful misunderstood dogs wind up in shelters. We understand what drives these dogs, we can place them appropriately. Our mission is to educate people and save dogs. We do it because we love these dogs, with a little effort, can give them a good new life. Euthanasia is not the solution to out animal overpopulation issue. Education is.

Meet Thor

Reintroducing Thor, a 55lb cattle dog / malinois mix (we have the DNA) born June 2023. Thor has grown up comfortably in rescue, which is infinitely better than the shelter for a dog of his color and breed make up, but what he truly deserves is a forever home.    With his foster pack (which currently includes 2 adults, a 6 year old human child, and 3 other dogs of all ages and sizes) he is the most loving, loyal, affectionate goofball. He’s the life of the party but also knows how to settle down for naps and snuggles. His house manners are impeccable. Did we mention how handsome he is? The list of what makes Thor a stellar dog extends beyond what words can capture here.    But here’s what Thor is looking for. Thor needs a confident, yet gentle and patient leader. He needs a calm and cool shepherd savvy person (or pack) that will continue his socialization primarily with strangers, but also someone that understands and respects his boundaries. He needs an ADVOCATE. He would prefer an active, rural setting without a revolving door of unfamiliar people coming in and out of the home, or at the very least a safe place to retreat when new people are in the home. Slow and steady introductions are the key to this guy’s heart and then he’s ready to be your best friend. Bonus if there is another social / playful dog in the home. He loves, loves, loves other dogs and has potential to be okay with cats.  Thor is being fostered in Arroyo Grande. Interested in adopting Thor?
