High Plateau Humane Society

HPHS was founded in 1987 and we rescue about 120 dogs and 250 cats per year. We are an all-volunteer organization and run a thrift store, called Second Chance Thrift, from which we adopt out animals and sell our low-cost spay and neuter certificates. We have a number volunteers, including a board of five. We do this because we have a passion to rescue orphaned and homeless animals and want to make life better for the animals in our county.

Meet Gus

Gus, and his brother Gary, are 3 year old, 60 pound happy-go-lucky boys that were surrendered because their owner had to move and could not take them. The boys are almost identical in both look and manner, but would benefit from being adopted into different households to help them build their social skills.  They already know not to jump up on people, are house trained, and they get along great with other dogs.  They need some work with basic obedience and leash walking, but they are eager to learn and will  be fun canine companions.   If you would like to meet Gus, please call Jenn at 530-708-2377 to arrange a time. He is being fostered with Gary in a private  home in the City of Alturas, Modoc County, CA.  His adoption fee is $180 which helps to pay for his shots (Rabies, DAPP and Bordetella), deworming,  microchipping and neuter.

Adoption Process
When someone releases an animal to HPHS, we require a signed release form. We then have the animal vaccinated and spayed or neutered before offering it for adoption. Adoption fees vary and are listed with each animal.
