High Plateau Humane Society

HPHS was founded in 1987 and we rescue about 120 dogs and 250 cats per year. We are an all-volunteer organization and run a thrift store, called Second Chance Thrift, from which we adopt out animals and sell our low-cost spay and neuter certificates. We have a number volunteers, including a board of five. We do this because we have a passion to rescue orphaned and homeless animals and want to make life better for the animals in our county.

Meet Lucy

Lucy is a 4 year old female German Shepherd who needs a stable household and a steady handler who loves and understands German Shepherds and their work ethic.  So far, Lucy has had a bunch of human flakes in her life and she is confused about what is expected of her.  She works hard to offer behaviors that will be rewarded, but who knew humans could be so dense?  LOL  Anyway, Lucy has energy and charm.  She does well with other dogs and with kids.  She is said to be good with cats as well. She is house trained and willingly goes in her kennel.  She knows "sit" and "lay down" but tends to lay down by default if you ask anything of her.  She works hard not to jump up on you as well.  Her favorite thing so far is her Kong as she has found that humans like to throw it for her.  She readily brings it back and drops it at your feet, ready to go again! Lucy's adoption fee is $180, which helps to pay for her spay, shots and micro-chip.  If you are interested in Lucy, please email [email protected] with some information about your household and the activities you plan for her.  We are looking forward to hearing from you!

Adoption Process
When someone releases an animal to HPHS, we require a signed release form. We then have the animal vaccinated and spayed or neutered before offering it for adoption. Adoption fees vary and are listed with each animal.

Look for other dogs for adoption!
